The Central Virginia Rotary Club has a long and storied history of service to the community. Founded in 1917, the Lynchburg Rotary Club was the 280th club to be organized. Eight years later, Belle Wheelan, PhD, president of Central Virginia Community College, became the first female president of the club. Since then, the Central Virginia Rotary Club has been dedicated to helping those in need both locally and abroad.
In collaboration with local Rotary clubs and UVA Engineering, the team participates in drinking water and sanitation projects in Africa led by Rotarians and representatives of the University of Virginia. In 2003, the Club developed a project between the Rotary Club of Lynchburg and the Rotary Club of Mzuzu Malawi (in Central Africa).The Central Virginia Rotary Club is committed to making a difference in the world. Through their dedication to service and their commitment to helping those in need, they have made a lasting impact on their community and beyond.
